National Scrapbook Day Recap

Have you all recovered from National Scrapbook Day (or weekend)? Liz may never be the same.

IMG_4944

How many different FUN things can you do in one weekend? We tried to think of everything. Sales, classes, demos, make-n-takes. New products and LOTS of inspiration.

These 2 young ladies took a class that JLo taught using a paper doll kit from Ten Seconds Studio- a new vendor that we just LOVED from CHA. They were both so creative (needing little instruction) AND completely finished their dolls during the class.

IMG_4964

IMG_4968

Here's Krystal showing some customers how to use the Slice. It's a portable, easy-to-use diecut machine that now EMBOSSES, too!  If you haven't seen it before, come in for a demo or see it online here.

IMG_4952

JLo also did a make-n-take with Ten Seconds Studio's dog tags. Everyone went home with a cute piece of embossed, metal jewelry.

IMG_4998

JLo brought her friend Susan to the store to teach a few classes

IMG_4991

Her "One-sheet Wonder" class was a big hit. With one sheet of card stock and a few folds, she showed the class how to create a tag book/ album. Photos and embellishments were added afterwards.

IMG_4985

Liz even found time to take a class- making the metal "paper" doll.

IMG_4955

Thanks to all our great customers for your support! And our wonderful staff and friends who worked so hard to make the weekend a success. And a very, very special thank you to JLo and Susan for their wonderful classes- we can't wait till you come back again!

April 30, 2009

Come and play the JLo way

Seriously!  I'm going to change my last class to something so much fun I know you will want to join me!!!  Sunday, May 3, 2:00 - 6:00 PM.  And only $20.00.

You can pick out any 3 sheets of paper in the store and any 1 sticker package.  AND....you get either a Melissa Frances Hinge Book, or a Melissa Frances Keepsake Box!!!  You can also pick the Melissa Frances Postcard Kit instead of the paper and stickers if you want.

Once you have made your selection, come and play with me.  No, I am not going to make up a sample before hand.....but I have already picked out my paper from Samantha Walker's new Creative Imaginations line:  Voyez en Arriere. And we will design and create together....it will be as though you are in my stuido....and you can use any of my diecut tools and dies and other products while we play away the day together!

Here's the "kit" I've put together......so yes, you can pay more and buy more paper and get both the journal and the box!

DSC06869

Adorable hinged journal

DSC06873

The box is rather clever.  At first, it looks like 2 photo frames on the front...

DSC06875
But there is a tray that goes behind the window - gets adhered to the back side, and this allows you to go dimensional - you can make a mini scene, store thick treasures and keepsakes - truly a fun project!

DSC06876

And here's the Melissa Frances Postcard kit, complete with buttons, photo corners, flowers, lace and more.

DSC06878

So call the store and sign up for this really creative, fun class on Sunday afternoon.  I might not be back this year.....so come say "goodbye" with a great send-off project!

Come meet Mini Me!!!

We've just added a new class - "Mini Me!"  Oh my gosh, is this just too cute?  Now of course, this is "me"....not "you", so I hope your "me" doesn't look like my "me" at all!!!

Did you get that???  I will show you how to make the doll.....but she really should be your own unique creation reflecting bits and pieces of you (not me!!!)  For instance....I have gray hair (well, I do, when I don't use a box!) and I thought a blue (hair) flower was too cute!  I gave her glasses.  And I gave her lots of beach bling.  She really is part me!

DSC06832

I'll show you how to use TenSeconds studio tools and metal to make this fun little "mini me" doll.  And if that's not enough, we'll also be embossing with Cuttlebug Folders and Spellinders Impressabilities.

DSC06834

You can use pre-colored metals.....or ink your own!  And then I'll show you how to hand design the metal....like her shoes.

DSC06836

We've already had a huge response to my Mini Me - which I just finished up today, so we're going to offer this class twice!!!

April 30, Thursday, 1:00 - 3:00 pm
May 1, Friday, 7:00 - 9:00 pm

$15.00

Bring scissors, your TenSeconds Studio tools if you have them, or share mine.  The store has tons of rhinestones, flowers, buttons and other fun things you can purchase to help embellish your Mini Me!  She is just way too much fun!!!

New Products

Are you ready for some NEW PRODUCTS? We have been busy, busy, busy unpacking boxes and getting ready for National Scrapbook Day. We got a HUGE order in from Maya Road this week with new lines from CHA.

Maya Road

Here are some of my favorite things (mini-albums of course)

DSC_0334

Cupcakes are all the rage- so many designers are including them in their lines. I had to order everything cupcake-related.

DSC_0336

Maya Road had a sample in their booth of the large cupcake- they made it into a family birth date reminder:

2009 CHA-196

2009 CHA-197

There are so many items- too many to show here: acrylic stamps and lots of ribbons (including their sheer line with the cute cupcakes shown above)! We oohed and aahed all night while opening the boxes. Customers hovered, just waiting for us to put everything out on the floor.  Come in quick- before everything is gone.

We  also got in Cloud 9's new line- Finley's Estate with names like "Daisy Patch", Flower Field" and "Trellis":

And doesn't this happy, spring line from Best Creations make you want to run out and fly a kite...

DSC_0317

Hope you're all enjoying JLo's blogs and have come in to sign up for her classes. I can't decide which one is my favorite, but there's something for everyone: mini-albums, metal techniques, cards and lots of new, fun things to learn. We don't have many spots left, so hurry in to make sure that you don't miss out!

On Friday, May 1, I am going to be at the store at 6:00 am when it opens!  I'll be demoing the Cricut, Cuttlebug, Wizard and Revolution that morning.  WOW!!!

Then I'm going to introduce Friendly Plastic.  Do you remember it from the 70s?  Well, I might say "re-introduce"....but it is back in a HUGE way and there are some amazingly fun things you can do with it!

We'll do 2 classes - back-to-back......

Marbling 101

Using Friendly Plastic strips, you'll learn how to cut, cuse and marble into wonderful designs.  You'll use cutters to make shapes and inlay the shapes into your marbled pieces.  This is really a time to experiment and play....and I really think the sky's the limit!

DSC06692
Students should bring a needle tool, scissors and clay cutters (if you have them).  Everything else will be provided.  Price $10.00  1:00 - 3:00 PM (May 1, Friday)

Immediately after this class will be:

Beautiful Bezels

JLo will show you how to make bezels to attach your marbled pieces to.  These wonderful pendants will be ready to wear home today!!!  Everything is precut - just bring your scissors.  This class will be from 3:00 - 4:30 PM and the price is just $10.00

DSC06693

What a wonderful way to kick off National Scrapbook weekend 2009!!!

Who is Susan Mostek and why should I take her classes? as told by JLo

You know, there is great fun in being able to write blogs for Scrapbook Your Life!  I can write whatever I want and post whatever photos I want.....and Susan can't stop me!  LOLOL!!!

She is going to just have a fit when she sees this photo I'm posting.......

Susan 2

but I love it!  She had just finished a "self-portrait" and I think it looks exactly like her - all smiles!!!

Do you ever just want to laugh until you cry?  Sort of good for the soul when that happens, huh?  Well, Susan is the person I go to when I want that kind of non-stop giggling.  It doesn't matter how bad my day might be, she can definitely put a smile on my face every time!!!

OK, seriously - Susan has been crafting all her life.  She's had such a life, too, living in Spain....then close to Washington DC....now Boulder, Colorado, and her parents live in San Diego...just down the street from the store!  She discovered stamping and papercrafting about 1995 and was hooked!  (Like we don't know that feeling???)  She's been teaching rubber stamping and papercraft classes for the past 10 years.  She loves to pass on her passion for art to new students.  In fact...that's just how I met Susan - in a class!!!

I'd have to say her real love is interactive cards.  She continues to amaze and inspire me to be a better artist.  She has been on the Design Team for B Line Designs (a rubber stamp company) for the past 5 years.  She's done design work for Stampers Anonymous, and has been published in numerous papercrafting magazines, including The Stamper's Sampler, RubberstampMadness, Craft 'N Things, and in a Lark Publication book titled "Fifty Nifty Beaded Cards".

I can guarantee that you will not be disappointed in Susan's classes.  Ok - she makes me look so bad - she precuts everything!!!  Alright - I'm precutting everything this trip as well - I couldn't let her "one-up" me!  LOL!  So come spend National Scrapbook Day at Scrapbook Your Life!  Take both of Susan's classes and then watch the demos that I'll be doing all day long.  It's sure to be a fun-filled day with tons and tons of giggling going on!

Hey Kristal....Liz!!!  Do you think you have enough chocolate for the day???

See you all soon!

JLo

Susan's famous "Double-slider card"
