November Challenge

A you move into the busy holiday season, take some time out to think of all the things you have to be thankful for. At SCRAPBOOK YOUR LIFE, we are going to make it easy for you. Not only do we have beautiful Fall-themed papers and embellishments to inspire you, but we are issuing a little challenge (with a reward). During November, write down all the things that you are thankful for. Then take photos to represent those things. Everything counts, from the smallest thing to the biggest: your family, the soft tissue when you have a cold, the scarf that keeps you warm at a football game, a clean car window, an empty mailbox with no political ads, etc. At the end of the month, create a layout or a mini album with your photos and lists and bring them into the store on December 6 and receive 25% off your purchase!

Here are some examples:

From Amanda Probst in November's Creating Keepsakes Magazine (click here to read article and her ideas for the challenge)

Diecut Bonanza

Yet another FREE class! Are you still wondering what diecut system is the best? Want to know the difference between them? Wondering what makes the dies different?

Come compare 4 different systems: Spellbinders Wizard, Sizzix Big Shot, Provo Craft's Cuttlebug and Quickuts Revolution. We'll take a look at the difference in the machines and we'll compare how the dies work in their "own" machine and in other systems.

And, if you have a diecut system that's still in the box, bring it with you! We'll have another "take it out of the box" party and help you get started!

Bound to be yet another fun class as we experiment with diecuts.

Oh, and I'll share with you my new trick on how to turn any flat diecut into an embossed diecut!

Class date: Tuesday, Sep 9, 7:30 - 9:30

Class fee: FREE

SCRAP THE CRAP!!!

You asked for it - and it's back! Once again, challenge me! Bring me your worst piece of scrapbook paper. The oldest thing you have. The paper that you look at and say, "oh! gag me!!!"

And we'll see if I can turn it into something that you won't let me keep!

But this time, we will one-up the challenge. Bring me your worst embellishment! Sticker, flower, anything and we'll see what I can do with it!

The class is free, but best plan on buying what I show you to turn your crap into something you love!

And Patti, I really expect you to find some "real" crap this time!!!

Class date: Thurs, Sep 4, 7:30 - 9:30

Come Play in my rooms!

Let's make an itty bitty room book! These are so much fun to make and you will learn how to turn almost anything into a 3D pop-up!

So, it looks just like a little 3" book to start:

Dsc03830

and as it starts to open uNop, the rooms start to take shape:

Dsc03831

When it's all the way open, there are 4 "rooms"

Dsc03838

You can pick any subject/paper that you want. It just takes 1 sheet for the 4 rooms and then I used stamps and bits and pieces of scrap paper for the rest. In the first "room", Lucy McGoo is playing with the birds:

Dsc03832

The second room is a pop up bouquet of flowers and I'll show you how to do this - it's so easy!

Dsc03833

Here's a view from the top of the bouquet:

Dsc03834

There's a room for birds:

Dsc03835

And a room for an owl:

Dsc03836

Once you make one of these itty bitty room books, you will want to make tons more! Great (wonderful) gifts to give!

Dsc03816

A close up of one of the cupcakes, just so you can see the "icing" - oh! how fun!!!

Dsc03817

We'll use diecuts and embossing folders:

Dsc03821

And here's my newsflash! Spellbinders brand new cupcake die is on the way to me and we will get to use it during the class! NO OTHER STORE has this die yet!

And rubber stamps:

Dsc03673

You pick the size - up to a quarter - to design and play with!

Dsc03672

And if you want, you can simply bring a foreign coin that is the size of a quarter or smaller and we will encase it in the coin bezel.

Coin Bezel Art Collages - I wonder if we're the first store to offer this class!

Class time:

Sun, Sep 14, 12 noon - 2 pm

Class fee: $10.00

Optional Class kit: tiny pictures, words, etc., a photo of you about 1" tall, scissors, craft knife, ruler, paper trimmer, tweezers, tape runner, wet glue. Non-stick craft sheet, apron. Glass mat, distress inks.

What's the name of the game???

Learn how to use colorwash and beeswax to create a totally 3D collage on canvas. Wear old clothes. LOL!!! In this class, you will learn the basics of collage, how to layer, how to use beeswax as an adhesive, how to remove it when you get too much, and how to play!

You can create your own title for your project from the hundreds of letters I'm bringing. And you can pick your game pieces from my stash - or feel free to bring your own.

I'll also show you how to use tissue as background paper in your collage.

Bring a small, 3" x 3" photo of someone playing.....and we'll put it all together!

Dsc03716

That's my brother, and when he was little, we had this great "game" we played with him. We would stack those old alphabet blocks up as high as we could, then call him and he would crawl over and knock them over. I remember it was just the most fun ever and we would restack those blocks until he wore out!

I don't know how, but someone got a photo of him in action - and it has always been one of my very favorite photos. So I decided to use it in this beeswax collage titled "Play".

After working 33 years, life is all about how I "play". So come join me as we use beeswax, game pieces and parts and design the way you want to play!

Class time:

Sun, Sept 14, 10 am - 12 noon

Class fee: $10.00

Optional Class Kit: Melting Pot, beeswax brush, beeswax, game pieces, 3" x 3" photo of someone playing, anything you want to stick into the collage.

Flip-Flop books

A different kind of journal. One side is to write on, then flip it over and the other side is for photos. And with a title like that, we'll have to use flip-flops on it!!!

Dsc03723

Dsc03724

I'll also show you a quick way to resize any shape you have:

Dsc03727

Obviously, I love journals! I love using the bind-it-all to make them. But sometimes, I think we just don't think outside of the box much of the time. So I decided to make a flip flop book out of an old 45 record:

Dsc03745

So, if you will bring 2 old 45s, I will show you how to cut them and bind them.

I also wondered if I could us my white pen and white pigment ink pad on a record - and it just turned out way too cute!!!

Dsc03746

That owl just happened to be on the label, but I did find a stamp we can use as well. The cat is a diecut that I used as a stencil.

I do think we should title this one "Record the record" and make it a log book - recording the record of your life, something like that!

It's bound to be a totally fun class as there's no limit to the shape you can make your little book into....and no limit to the size! Bring a 33 record if you want!

Class time:

Sat, Sep 13, 4-8 pm

Class fee: $10.00

Optional class kit: Scissors, craft knife, ruler, paper trimmer, tweezers, tape runner, wet glue. Non-stick craft sheet, apron. Glass mat.

Get the flock out!!!

You saw my flocked bear during the distress ink technique class and said you wanted to learn how to make one. So here's your chance!

Dsc03731_2

Using a wrinkle distress background with double inks and some of Spellbinders dies (well, we can use any diecuts we want), I'll show you 3 different ways to flock a diecut.

Dsc03729

I'll show you how to glitter over flock and how to mix glitter with flock:

Dsc03730

I know you have bought flock, now it's time to get the flock out of the jar and onto your projects! So come join me as we "get the flock out"!!!

Class times:

Thurs, Sep 5, 3-5 pm
Wed, Sep 10, 3-5 pm

Class fee: $10.00

Optional class kit: Scissors, tweezers, glitter brush, your favorite diecut, distress inks, wet glue, tape runner, apron, paper trimmer, ruler. Plan to get covered with glitter!!!

Inky Dinky Pad Stamping

With the holidays fast approaching, this is a great way to make the same card, over and over and over!

Using cut n' dry felt, we will design and ink a pad for a specific stamp. So if you have one you really like, bring it with you. (Please limit the size to no larger than 2")

Then we just stamp over and over....

Dsc03737

Cut them apart and make cards:

Dsc03736

I used a Tim Holtz stamp for that one. But then I decided that we could also make our own paper with this technique. So I used a Pugnacious stamp and made my ink pad, then stamped all over a piece of paper:

Dsc03740

Then I took some holographic embossing powder and really turned it into a sheet of paper I could love!

Dsc03744

So we'll do both - we'll make cards and try our luck at making paper. If you don't have any stamps, don't worry - I'll be bringing tons!

Class times:

Thurs, Sep 4, 1-3 pm
Wed, Sep 10, 1-3 pm

Class fee: $10.00

Optional class kit: Scissors, apron, tape runner, wet glue, ruler, non-stick craft sheet, Distress Inks, your favorite stamp(s)

Beer Can Cards!

Not just any beer can! I've got all my friends busy drinking Coors "gold" beer because the inside of the cans are just a fabulous shade of turquoise!!!

You can cut the cans into the Nestabilities shapes and then emobss them with cuttlebug folders:

Dsc03720

You can punch the rims for a more "lacey" look:

Dsc03721

You can layer the metal from the can under paper or between cans:

Dsc03722

I will be showing you how to add color to this metal using Posh Impressions metallic and rainbow inks. We'll do the JLo toothpick painting method, so plan on having a few good laughs! I know - who paints with a toothpick? Well.....ME!!!

And on that last one, you can see I've made a matching envelope, so we'll work on that if we have time.

Now, of course, you can work with soda cans or any beer can. I just think it's really cool to cut up a can and find a color of metal this wonderful! But then I live in Colorado.....the home of Coors!

Class times are:

Wed, Sep 3, 3-5 pm
Tues, Sep 9, 1-3 pm

Optional class kit: Apron, paper trimmer, scissors, non-stick craft sheet, tweezers. Glossy Accents.

Class fee: $10.00

PS - my friends all love me when I call them up and say that I need more beer cans! LOLOL!

Quick & Easy Cards

Some of you asked for afternoon card classes. So I've designed 4 classes and we'll repeat each of them twice. For the first class, I thought we could do some quick and easy cards. You can make as many cards as you want in the 2 hours of this class! Absolutely no limit!!!

(OK, I'm thinking there might be a contest!!!)

Pick from 19 Cuttlebug folders and lean how to use white core paper.

Dsc03733

Experiment with Sizzix new Movers & Shapers diecut. One pass through and you have a card!

Dsc03732

Or try out Cuttlebug's Cut & Emboss 2-step dies & folders. I just quickly de-bossed a card here and inked it with Rangers distress ink!

Dsc03735

And today, I picked up another new Sizzix die - one of the Bigz XLs that dicuts a box with a window and a flip top.

I will also have the enveloper on hand so you can quickly make envelopes to match your cards. Oh! I can hardly wait! Shall I find a prize for the person who makes the most cards in 2 hours? Or should we just sit back, play and have a blast! No matter what, this is sure to be a totally fun class!!!

Times for this class:

Wed, Sep 3, 1-3 pm
Tues, Sep 9, 11-1

$10.00

Optional class kit: Scissors, tape runner, wet glue, Ranger distress inks or other inks, glass mat, non-stick craft sheet, Glossy Accents, apron.

No Pain! No Gain!

At my age, it hurts to move! LOL! But I also know that "moving" my body is what will keep me more active, and a bit younger as I age. Now "diet" is truly a 4 letter word! But when I saw the stickers, "no pain, no gain" - I knew I could keep track of my daily walks with a cute little journal like this:

Dsc03692

Dsc03693

We'll create this cute little pocket sized journal that you can take with you anywhere you go. But the really great part about this is all the charts that I've designed for you to put inside of it!

Dsc03694

And we'll design divider pages for each section:

Dsc03695

I'll be giving each of you a CD with all the charts so you can continue your healthy lifestyle past the holidays, but we'll print out and insert enough to take you to the end of this year!

Dsc03699

It doesn't matter if you want to lose weight, want to eat healthy, or want to keep track of how many miles you walk a day - this is a great journal class to get you motivated for a healthier lifestyle! No pain - no gain. But yes, we'll probably still have chocolate that class!!!
